Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do just that.
1. The Basics
By default, you can use the "local.insure" domain to host your landing pages and incorporate the Google reviews tool. But, if you'd like a personalized touch with a custom domain (like sampleagency.com) or a subdomain (like hello.sampleagency.com), you'll need a brief setup.
2. Pointing Your Domain
To point your custom domain or subdomain to our platform, you'd have to update the "A" record on your domain provider's platform. Here's how you can do that:
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Log in to Your Domain Provider: This might be GoDaddy, Namecheap, Bluehost, etc.
- Navigate to DNS Settings: This is often located in your domain's dashboard or management page.
- Locate the "A" Record Option: This might be labeled as "DNS Records", "Name Server Management", "DNS Management", or something similar.
-
Edit/Add an "A" Record:
- If you're using a custom domain (like sampleagency.com), you'd want to set the @ symbol in the hostname or name field.
- If it's a subdomain (like hello.sampleagency.com), type hello or your chosen prefix in the hostname or name field.
- In the value or address field, enter the IP address we've provided.
- Save Your Changes: This is crucial! Ensure you save any changes made.
Note: If your domain is already being used for an existing website or has been set up with a redirect, changing the "A" record would cause the main domain to point to the Insurance Sales Lab pages. If that's the intended outcome, feel free to proceed. However, if you wish to retain your existing website or redirect setup and only use our platform for a specific portion, we strongly advise setting up a subdomain for this purpose.
3. Verifying Your Domain
Once you've set your "A" record, it's essential to verify that everything's pointing correctly:
- Visit Google Admin Toolbox Dig
- Enter Your Domain or Subdomain: In the box provided, type in your custom domain or subdomain.
- Check the Results: If everything's set up correctly, you should see your new "A" record pointing to the provided IP address.
Note: DNS changes might not reflect immediately. Depending on your domain registrar and account settings, propagation of these changes can sometimes take up to 48 hours.
4. Final Step: Activate Your Custom Domain
After verification:
Submit a Support Ticket: Contact our support team so that we can activate the custom domain on our backend.
We'll handle the rest and get back to you as soon as your custom domain is up and running on our platform.
